Local state legislators are showing support for a plan that would overhaul Wausau's downtown riverfront and lure apartments, restaurants and retail shops to the area.

The city's plan to develop roughly $3 million worth of land officials have purchased since 2011 is spurring State Sen. Jerry Petrowski, R-Marathon, Rep. John Spiros, R-Marshfield and Rep. Mandy Wright, D-Wausau, to sponsor state legislation that would extend the life of the city's tax increment district and allow city officials to work on the development for 10 more years.
