Auburndale blasts Hurley, in position for first state berth since 2004

Many teams preach the philosophy 'defend without fouling', but it will not be executed better than what the Auburndale boys basketball team displayed Thursday night.

Auburndale did not surrender a single free throw attempt to Hurley and used a huge run bridged by halftime to demolish the Midgets 54-27 in a WIAA Division 4 sectional semifinal at Wausau East High School.

Thanks to its suffocating defense and some solid offensive execution, Auburndale is one victory away from reaching the state tournament for the first time since 2004. ...
