Think melodrama. Think 49ers. Think a villain, an innocent youth, a handsome hero, the villain's sidekick and, of course, the town drunkard.

That is the premise for the 17th annual Community Show, "The Romance of Scarlet Gulch," which will be staged March 8 to 10 to raise funds for the Arts Alliance of Portage County.

"It's a Western-based melodrama," said cast member Monica Davisson, whose two daughters also are in the show. "You have to boo when you see the villain and cheer when you see the hero." ...
