Museum plans Irish presentation; Friends to hold annual meeting

The New London Public Museum will focus on the world of the medieval Irish warrior in its upcoming Curiosity Series presentation on March 9.

Military historian Scott Cross will lead the program at 10:30 a.m. in the museum's meeting room. Starting in 1259, military men from the Hebrides Islands and the Highlands of Scotland arrived in Ireland. Known as Gallowglass, or foreign young heroes, these men brought military skills, weapons, armor and a desire to work for the chieftains and kings of Ireland. They, and the many that followed, became mercenaries, or soldiers for hire.
