The Spencer Special Olympics basketball team will challenge the Spencer Fire Department.
Mark your calendars for March 10. That is the day the Spencer Special Olympics basketball team takes on the Spencer Fire Department.
Tip-off is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. in the R. J. Tack Auditorium. Come and support our local Special Olympians and the Spencer Fire Department. Admission is free and concessions will be available. If you have questions, call Kay Derks at 715-659-4046.
If you haven't attended one of these games, now is the time. Putting it mildly - the Olympians have the fire department's number.
For the past five years, the two teams have battled for supremacy. Each year, the game has been very close. The action has been up and down the court. Both teams have put on quite a show.
Each year, the fire department has taken the Olympians down to the wire, only to succumb to the pressure and eventually give the game away in overtime.
Will this year be any different? The Spencer Fire Department has tried everything. They tried the strategy of resting before the game. That did not work. They brought in some younger members. Well, that did not work either.
What special weapon will they spring on the Spencer Special Olympian hoopsters? Knowing this group of younger players, they will be ready for any challenge the fire department throws their way. They have the shooters. They have the speed and finesse to thwart any challenge the department brings to the court.
Will it be six in a row, or will the Spencer Fire Department find that illusive first win?
You won't want to miss this game. Come on out and enjoy a Sunday afternoon of basketball. What you will witness is the excitement and energy put forth by the Special Olympians. Nothing is better than seeing that excited expression on the face of one of these kids when he makes a basket.
You also will see a group of fire department members who volunteer their time to help the kids out. I hope to see you all on March 10.
