Editor's note: Beat Notes are filed weekly by Wausau Daily Herald reporters discussing events on their beats and observations they have made while reporting.

The Village of Weston Fire Department hopes to raise $10,000 for children with cancer by shaving firefighters' heads March 16.

Firefighters from the department will shave their heads in exchange for donations to St. Baldrick's Foundation, an organization that raises money for children battling cancer. The event will take place at 11 a.m. at the Weston Fire Department, 5303 Mesker St., Weston.

The department already has raised more than $850 in donations. To donate, call Denise Behm at 715-581-3013 or visit www.stbaldricks.org and search for Weston Fire Department.
