State representatives are showing support for a city plan to build playgrounds, kayak launches and encourage private businesses to settle along Wausau's riverfront.

The city's proposal to develop roughly $3 million worth of the land it has purchased since 2011 is spurring Jerry Petrowski, R-Stettin, to sponsor state legislation that would extend the life of the city's tax increment district and allow city officials to work on the development for 10 more years.
