Column: Spend time at Lowell Center in spring

As we approach the end of an unpredictable weather month, we're delighted to see some signs of spring. The daylight hours are increasing, and temperatures will, too, along with our hopes that the snow stays away. Just keep in mind that no matter how long the winter, spring is sure to follow.

AARP Tax Aide Program. Volunteer counselors trained in cooperation with the IRS will be available from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays through April 10 at the Lowell Center. APPOINTMENTS ARE REQUIRED! Call the dedicated phone line number of 715-422-2776 between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to set up your personal tax appointment. Bring a copy of your 2011 tax returns, documentation of 2012 income, two forms of ID for each person filing to include Social Security, driver's license or picture ID and all 2012 PAID expenses for itemized deductions. If filing for Homestead, bring your 2012 real estate tax statement (whether paid or not), and/or a signed completed rental certificate.

Birthday/Holiday Celebrations. Join us for an afternoon of fun as we celebrate those with a March birthday at 1:30 pm. March 12. Everyone is welcome, even if you're not celebrating a birthday. Please call Lowell Center to register.

Elder Abuse Presentation. Problems of domestic violence in later life and elder sexual assaults are far more widespread than most care to admit. An informative conversation will be from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. March 26 at Lowell Center.

Sunday Opening. Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. March 17. Bingo starts at 1 p.m. with 20 games, $1 per card with a two-card maximum. You are also invited to use the pool room, play cards (rooms available on first-come basis) and enjoy your center until 4:30 p.m.

Mah-jongg Group. New at Lowell Center is a Mah-jongg group that will meet at 2 p.m. certain Wednesdays. If you are interested in joining this group as they learn the tiles to play the game, please give us a call at 715-421-1051 to find out the next time they play.

Intergenerational Week. Spending time with grandchildren and young friends of all ages is important to you, and it's important to Lowell Center. April 1 to 5 will be a week when we invite you to bring them along to designated programs.

? April 1, Learn to Line Dance, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

? April 2, Game Day (race cars, golf putt, bean bag toss) 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

? April 3, Cards & Crawlers (old fashion card games and dirt cups) 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

? April 4, Candy Bar Bingo, Bring seven "fun size" candy bars and we'll play seven games of bingo and the winner receives, you guessed it - CANDY!

? April 5, Make a Stepping Stone. Cost is $3 to help cover the cost of supplies and registration is required by April 1.
