Thank You United Way

I have had the privilege of working with the Brown County United Way for several years. My experience began on their Health and Wellness Impact Council, included several years on the Board of Directors, and I recently completed a year term as board chair in 2012.

Reflecting back, it has truly been an inspiring experience, which has helped me become a better version of myself. Prior to working with the United Way, I had very limited exposure to the exceptional agencies and programs that are available in our community. My work at the United Way gave me the opportunity to tour and see, firsthand, the work of our agency partners.

The United Way currently works with 40 funded programs and larger initiatives like the Community Partnership for Children. It is through these collaborations where the positive impact on our community is made possible. These programs and initiatives are making a difference for many people in Brown County.

I have had a chance to work with the great staff at the United Way, and have met many others who work in agencies throughout the community. These are exceptional individuals who give a great deal to this community. In addition, there are hundreds of volunteers who give of their time, gifts and talents to make Brown County a wonderful place to live. It is great to see all the people who lead by example and serve as such great role models for our younger generation.

Lastly, I would like to mention the importance of "giving back" or "paying it forward." It was 12 years ago that my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Many recognized the fact that we had three young children and an uncertain future, so family, friends, neighbors and complete strangers stepped in to help. Over the next two years, my wife battled through chemotherapy and multiple surgeries. During that time, numerous people stepped into our lives to help with anything that was needed. Today I feel very blessed that my wife has been cancer free for 10 years. I will always be thankful to all who were there for us when we needed it most.

The United Way of Brown County, along with the programs it helps support, are stepping into peoples' lives every day and truly making a difference. Thanks to all that give of their time, gifts and talents to this community.
