Prosecutor Christian Gossett laments the glaring presence of unsolved murders languishing on the books in Winnebago County.

"If I had lost a family member and it was part of a cold-case homicide, the most frustrating thing would be sitting and waiting," said the county's district attorney. "It's sort of a perfect storm of frustration."

Gossett's spirits have been lifted in recent weeks by major breakthroughs in two longtime cold cases in nearby Outagamie and Waupaca counties. ...
