The Skills Gap: Myth or Reality? You Decide!

We've heard it a lot lately; manufacturers throughout Fond du Lac and the surrounding areas have jobs to offer but not enough solid applicants. They point to a "skills gap" between the jobs available and the people out looking for work. But what does this actually mean and what can be done about it? Attend the upcoming HR program - The Skills Gap: Myth or Reality? You Decide! - and become better informed and join in the conversation.

This program will take place on Tuesday, March 12, with registration at 7:30 a.m. and the program running from 8 to 9:30 a.m. at the Holiday Inn of Fond du Lac. Open to the public, registration is required.

Reservations must be received by Friday, March 9. No refunds will be made after this date. Cost for the program is $20 for HR Members, $25 for Association of Commerce Members and $30 for Non-Members. Visit www.fdlac.com to register or call 920-921-9500.

Understanding labor availability in the Fond du Lac area is vital to ensuring the continued success of local businesses and the community as a whole. In order for businesses to grow, expand and continue to thrive, they will need the right people with the right skill sets to fill anticipated job openings.

Attend the March 12 HR program 'The Skills Gap: Myth or Reality? You Decide!' (presented by Dr. Jeffrey Sachse, WI Department of Workforce Development - Area 4) and hear first-hand what the skills gap is and isn't. Hear how it is viewed by job seekers and employers and why thinking about skills matters. How will it affect you? Learn what action steps you can take to do something about it. Dr. Jeffrey Sachse will also share key findings of the Sullivan and Be Bold 2 Reports, the governor's response to them and why these represent an important new point in our conversation about the state's economy.

About the Speaker: Working within the Office of Economic Advisors since October 2009, Dr. Jeffrey Sachse serves seventeen counties of the Bay and Fox Valley Workforce Development Areas. Active with a number of regional chambers of commerce as well as the New North, Jeff has published and presented research on a number of economic and workforce development topics. Dr. Sachse earned his Bachelor's degree from Marquette University, his Masters in Public Affairs from UW-Madison and his Ph.D from UW-Milwaukee.

The Fond du Lac Area Human Resources Association is a division of the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce and is dedicated to quality programs, events and activities related to the human resources profession. These programs also serve as a great networking opportunity along with other fun events that are planned throughout the year, such as the annual golf outing and holiday event.
