Neighbors applaud derelict building's demolition as start of area's revitalization

A backhoe made quick work of a decaying central city house Monday morning as city and state officials celebrated ongoing neighborhood blight removal efforts.

The demolition was cause for celebration among residents of the Middle Village neighborhood who had watched the house at 118 W. Parkway Ave. go from an inhabitable but neglected property to a decrepit, foreclosed home that was so poorly maintained it could not be salvaged.
