Ideas for Door Co. homeless shelter

Zoning is done in all areas to protect the people and it serves the purpose. This does not solve the problem of the need for a homeless shelter. Instead of blaming others, let's look for a solution.

Sturgeon Bay always seemed the central hub of Door County. People come from all directions, whether to worship, shop, work or play. It seems to have so many organizations willing to help those in need.

These are my suggestions. Look at the possibility of some of the vacant buildings in Sturgeon Bay. The empty school on the corner of Pine Street and Green Bay Road. They have ample room, a ball field (skating rink in winter), basketball court, fenced in lot, lots of room for families in need. Businesses, schools, churches, restaurants are all within walking distance. That's the west side.

The east side has the vacant Kmart store. Plenty of room. Churches, schools, businesses, movie theater, child care center, YMCA, etc., all within walking distance. Homeless people can learn to be independent and yet have guidance from others.

People who want to volunteer, donate time or money, now is your time to step ahead. It would be nice to hear others' ideas for Door County.
