Sign-up starts Monday for summer softball league

Registration will begin Monday, March 11, for the De Pere park-and-rec's adult summer softball league.

The registration packets are available at De Pere Community Center, 600 Grant St., and online at www.de-pere.org.

Registration will run from 8 a.m. March 11 to 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 5.

Participants can register by mail, email or in person at De Pere Community Center during regular office hours of 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. The email address to use for more information or to register is twulterkens@mail.de-pere.org.

The available leagues are men's 12-inch slow pitch on Mondays and Thursdays at VFW Park, men's 14-inch 30-and-older slow pitch on Thursdays at Legion Park, men's modified on Wednesdays at Legion Park and coed 12-inch slow pitch on Tuesdays at Legion Park.

League play will begin the week of Monday, April 29. The team fee is $190, and the player fees are $31 for city of De Pere residents and $51 for non-residents.

DNR meeting on panfish Wednesday

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Northeast Region office will hold a public meeting next week in downtown Green Bay to give anglers and others the opportunity to share their expectations for fishing for panfish in Wisconsin.

The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Brown County Central Library auditorium, 515 Pine St. DNR fisheries biologist Steve Hogler will host the meeting.

It's one of more than two dozen meetings being held across the state regarding the matter.

Attendees at the meeting will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire to help the DNR understand their concerns, issues and priorities for panfish.

The questionnaire and background materials that will be presented at the meeting can be found online at http://dnr.wi.gov - keyword is "panfish plan."

St. Norbert football fish fry Friday

The third annual SNC Gridiron Club Fish Fry will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Legends Brewhouse & Eatery of De Pere, 875 Heritage Road.

Tickets are $25, which includes the meal as well as beer and soda.

The event also will include an auction of sports memorabilia and athletic gear.

Proceeds from the event will support the SNC football program.

Free curling lessons this spring

Green Bay Curling Club will offer a series of learn-to-curl sessions for the public in the early spring.

The sessions will be held at the club, 781 Potts Ave., Ashwaubenon.

Session dates and times are: Thursday, March 28, 6 to 9 p.m.; Friday, March 29, 6 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, March 30, 1 to 4 p.m.; Wednesday, April 3, 6 to 9 p.m.; and Thursday, April 4, 6 to 9 p.m.

Admission is free. Instructors and curling equipment will be provided. Attendees should wear warm, loose-fitting clothing and tennis shoes.

Baseball camp Saturday at De Pere H.S.

The baseball coaches from University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will hold a baseball camp for children in fourth to 12th grades Saturday, March 9, in the gymnasium at De Pere High School, 1700 Chicago St.

The camp will cover hitting, outfield, infield and pitching.

Camp sessions will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. for fourth- to eighth-graders and noon to 3 p.m. for ninth- to 12th-graders.

The camp cost is $45. The registration form is available online at www.depereredbirdbaseball.com. Walk-ups the day of the camp are allowed.
