The Sheboygan Youth Sailing Club cellphone collection drive is officially under way. The drive is a fundraiser for the club, with proceeds benefiting its mission to promote sailing and windsurfing to the community at affordable prices.

The group will earn up to $30 per cellphone, up to $100 per smartphone and will earn funds for each phone collected regardless of age or condition. Donating a used, unwanted cellphone allows community members to donate to an environmentally-friendly program that recycles them through "reuse" and "refining."

The Sheboygan Youth Sailing Club has partnered with Shelter Alliance (www.shelteralliance.net), the largest grassroots cellphone recycler in the United States, for this drive.

A cellphone collection "drop box" is currently established at the Sheboygan Yacht Club, 214 Pennsylvania Ave., and open during working hours. The club is additionally soliciting local businesses to initiate collection campaigns with its employees, customers and vendors. Contact the group at www.youthsailingclub.us with questions.
