Guest Commentary: Civil War soldier with local ties remembered for dedication to cause

Today marks the 150th anniversary of the death of Adam Kohel, 25, a veteran of The War of The Rebellion (i.e. Civil War) and an early settler in the City of Sheboygan Falls. Adam didn't receive any medals or ribbons, nor was he recognized for his bravery or dedication. He volunteered for the Infantry after being in America only six years.

He felt it was his duty to fight for the right and privilege of being an American. He gave his life in order to ensure freedom for all Americans. He died alone, hundred of miles from his family, thousands of miles from his birthplace, without any known memorial ...
