Think melodrama. Think 49ers. Think a villain, an innocent youth, a handsome hero, the villain's sidekick and, of course, the town drunkard. That is the premise for the 17th annual Community Show, "The Romance of Scarlet Gulch," which will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at Theatre @1800, 1800 Northpoint Drive.

The show, which features more than 60 local performers, is a fundraiser for the Arts Alliance of Portage County.

Tickets cost $12.50 for general admission and are available at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point ticket office in Dreyfus University Center or by calling 715-346-4100. They also will be available at the door if seats remain.
