School leaders hope a newly implemented plan will improve communication and increase community involvement all while benefiting students.

The first step to sparking lasting change as part of the Nekoosa School District's recently revised strategic plan was to instill a new culture that revolved around collaboration rather than top-down management, said Superintendent Terry Whitmore, who assumed the duties of the district's top executive when former superintendent Wayne Johnson retired at the end of the 2011-12 school year.
