UWGB men: Wardle banks on defense during postseason run

Brian Wardle served as an assistant coach on the last University of Wisconsin-Green Bay men's basketball teams that made serious runs at Horizon League titles.

He was Tod Kowalczyk's top assistant on teams that finished second in 2009 and third in 2010. In both cases, the Phoenix lost in the conference tournament to lower-seeded teams - to third-seeded Cleveland State in the '09 semifinals and to seventh-seeded Detroit in the '10 quarterfinals - in part because those squads were tougher defensively even if their offensive skill level didn't match UWGB's.
