The intensive care unit at Mercy Medical Center in Oshkosh recently launched a new remote monitoring system that allows medical professionals to look after patients around the clock.

However, the physicians, nurses and data specialists keeping an eye on those patients aren't in Oshkosh, they're located about 450 miles away in St. Louis, Mo.

Monitors, cameras, speakers and microphones were installed in the 12 rooms in Mercy Medical Center's ICU, and representatives from Advanced ICU Care, the company managing the tele-ICU program, have access to the patients' complete medical records ...
