The fact that the Stevens Point mayor filed for bankruptcy has nothing to do with how he manages city finances, say several council members.

Andrew Halverson filed paperwork for Chapter 7 protection Feb. 26 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Wisconsin. The filing stems from his now-shuttered business, Andrew's Limited, 1000 Main St.

"This was by far the hardest decision myself and my family has ever had to make," he said. "It was so hard for me to accept that a dream was no longer a reality." ...
