Wausau man faces up to 80 years in prison for role in crimes

One of two men accused of orchestrating robberies at two Wausau-area taverns that resulted in the theft of more than $4,000 has reached a plea agreement in the case.

Marathon County Circuit Judge Greg Grau on Friday found Mariano Valera, 26, of Wausau, guilty on two counts of armed robbery. Valera faces up to 80 years in prison and $200,000 in fines.

Valera told investigators that Branden Richter, 28, planned the October 2011 armed robbery at Cliffhangers in Schofield and the November 2011 robbery at Piggy's Pub in the town of Marathon that the two carried out, according to a criminal ...
