In the hour preceding lunch Saturday, antique appraiser Mark Moran scrutinized costume jewelry, cuff links, a set of cordial glasses and two Chinese bowls made in the 17th century.

It was part of a daylong "How Much Is It Worth?" event at the Marathon County Public Library, in which local residents signed up find the values of their treasured possessions. Moran, who has written 27 books about antiques and is a former antiques and collectibles senior editor for Krause Publications in Iola, holds court in similar events across the Midwest.
