Notes: Wisconsin Rapids Assumption comes into the tournament bolstering wins over State participant Barneveld as well as a split against fellow Marawood Conference rival Newman Catholic. The loss to the Fighting Cardinals is Assumption’s only blemish on the year. The Royals advanced to state by defeating Seneca 49-31 in the La Crosse Lorgan Sectional. Assumption is led by a pair of freshmen in Mary Sigler and Gena Grundhoffer. Sigler averages 17.6 points per game on 52 percent shooting from the field, and 81 percent from the free throw line. She also averages just under five steals per game defensively. Grundhoffer averages 11.6 points per game and also leads the team in rebounding with 4.6 per game. The freshmen tandem are the only two Royals averaging more than six points per game. Assumption averages 58.6 points per game, the lowest of the four teams at the State tournament this year.

Quote: "We’re still a very young team, only one senior and a few juniors that play and then a couple freshmen that come off the bench. We really have a nice nucleus right now and we’ve had great leadership all season long and that’s been a key to our success." Coach Joe Birkhauser on his team being at the State tournament.
