Local Head Start programs face likely cuts

Local Head Start programs may cut staff, consolidate hours and reduce busing to meet a loss in federal funding under sequestration.

Educators expect a 5 percent drop in Head Start funding under the automatic federal spending cuts. Head Start provides nutrition, early childhood education and other services for 3- and 4-year-olds from low-income families.

The CESA 7 Head Start program, which services Manitowoc County schools and the De Pere, Ashwaubenon and Howard-Suamico school districts in Brown County, could lose an estimated $200,000 in federal funding for next year. ...
