Oconto Board of Education meets March 18

The Oconto Board of Education will meet for its monthly meeting on Monday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room at Oconto Middle School. Two board members will be present for a listening session in the special education office (three doors down from the board room) from 5:45-6:15 p.m.

On the agenda for the regular meeting will be recognition of the OHS Boys and Girls Basketball teams as Regional winners, report by both basketball coaches, recognition of the state wrestling qualifier, and the winter athletic/activities report by Rick Sherman. Police Chief Ault will explain the new TALKS leadership/mentor program at the high school.

Action will be taken on the athletic trainer contract for the next three years, leases for preschool and Oconto day care, students applying for Youth Options for 2013/14, and the appointment of board canvassers for the upcoming spring election results. The president will summarize the recent evaluations done by members regarding the school board during the past year including a look at standing board committees, their purposes & objectives.

Policies receiving a first reading will be revised district nutrition and fitness guidelines, student competition, commencement speeches, bomb threats, emergency plans, and insurance management. The Youth Options policy will receive a second reading & if approved, will become official policy immediately.

Resignations and hirings, if any, will be considered. The board will go into closed session to consider teacher evaluations, possible staff layoffs and/or nonrenewals, and administrative contracts.

The final agenda has been posted at each school. Public comments may be made on non-agenda topics by signing up before 6:30PM the night of the meeting at the meeting site. If a person would like to address specific agenda items, the District Office should be contacted by 11 a.m. the Friday prior to the board meeting at (920) 834-7814, Ext. 4103.
