To the editor:
Hi! I'm Bruce Karow, candidate for Townsend Town Chairperson. I'd like to tell you a little bit about myself.
As your town supervisor, I initiated the replacement of our old street signs with new ones with white letters on a blue background. The white letters are larger than the old lettering and the blue background is more reflective than the yellow background, making the new signs easier to read both day and night. I also wrote a grant application that was successful in getting just under $18,000 extra dollars for our road program.
I took on the power company due to the many power outages in our area. I complained to the state, then sat down with power company officials to discuss causes and options. I was pleased to read in the newspaper last fall that WPS has embarked on a multi-year system modernization and reliability project in our area.
When we needed a new roof on our public works garage, I asked that the project be let to competitive bid, rather than only getting one quote. That saved the taxpayers of Townsend close to $6,000.
As we move forward, I will seek grants and other sources of funding for our major projects and purchases so we can continue to improve our town at minimal cost to the taxpayers. I will insist that major projects be competitively bid, and that new employees be hired by open competition with an exam plus interview process. I will also seek out new businesses for Townsend. As always, I will ask for your views on the issues. I will listen and discuss the issues with you, the town board, and other residents. So come to our board meetings, talk to me when I am out and about, or give me a call or email. I believe in open, two-way communication with all town residents and landowners.
It's time for a change. Please vote for me, Bruce Karow, for Townsend Town Chairperson, on April 2. Let's move Townsend forward, together. Thank you.
