The Green Bay Packers are getting closer to signing two significant offensive players in free agency: running back Steven Jackson and receiver Greg Jennings.

A source told the Press-Gazette that Jackson and the Packers were discussing a three-year contract on Wednesday. If the sides complete the deal, the Packers would be signing one of the league's best backs since the St. Louis Rams selected him at No. 24 overall in the 2004 draft, though at an age (30 in July) when most players at his position are in significant decline.
