The rumors are rampant about the Packers possibly signing running back Steven Jackson, though up to now nothing has been confirmed by anyone in the media.

The Press-Gazette's Rob Demovsky spoke to a source who said the Packers are talking with Jackson about a three-year contract.

Among other reports, ESPN's Adam Schefter earlier this afternoon tweeted the Packers had signed Jackson but shortly thereafter deleted it. Also, Examiner.com earlier reported that Jackson had signed last night, but is amending that report to say a deal is close but not finished.

Jackson is the top running back available in free agency. The one concern with him is age -- he's 29 and turns 30 in July, so he's old for a running back, though some scouts think he's an exception and still has another good year or two remaining.
