Big crowds expected for girls basketball tourney

Business owners are preparing for a financial assist as the three-day WIAA girls state basketball tournament starts today at the Resch Center.

"It's like a Packers game," said Chirag Dave, owner of Best Western Green Bay Inn Conference Center, which is next door to the arena. Nearly all 145 of the hotel's rooms were sold out for Thursday and Friday nights, which she said is much busier than a typical weekend.

It's the first time in its 37-year history that the tournament will be held outside of Madison. Organizers hope about 34,000 people attend the event, which ends Saturday. About 21,000 ...
