The Wisconsin Rapids Assumption girls basketball team avenged its only loss this season with a 60-37 victory over Wausau Newman Catholic in a WIAA Division 5 state semifinal Thursday at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

Junior Mary Sigler led the Royals with 17 points and freshman Gena Grundhoffer added 15. Assumption (27-1) moves on to Saturday's championship game against the winner of the South Shore-Barneveld semifinal. Newman ends its season 20-8.
