The 2011 announcement that the IT firm Collaborative Consulting would locate in Wausau was a breath of fresh air in a very difficult economic period. It was a sign that things could get better, and local businesses could grow.
It was especially powerful symbolically, because the firm was hiring for jobs that previously would have been located overseas - "insourcing," as the new phrase went.
This week, Collaborative Consulting celebrated its first anniversary. And while the local economy is hardly without serious challenges, the expansion of this business is on track and having the desired effect. It has hired 70 people in Wausau, with plans to hire 125 more this year and a total of 200 by the end of 2014. They're good jobs that provide an important foothold for Wausau in a growing field.
Daily Herald Media wants to help connect readers who are looking for jobs with the local businesses looking for workers. To that end, on Sunday we are launching a new, expanded jobs section that will include more classified and display advertising than we have offered in quite awhile.
There are jobs out there, and the signs of real economic growth now are persistent and very real. Collaborative Consulting is an important and high-profile example - but it's not the only one. We hope you'll pick up a copy of our print edition on Sunday for more news and information about jobs - and more ways to find the one that's right for you.
