On an early winter Saturday morning, Pat Reiher, art teacher at St. Mary's Springs Academy High School and a group of Arts Club students gathered at Tarfa Terrace Assisted Living Center. Tarfa Terrace is a member of and located at Lutheran Homes & Health Services, Inc.
The goal was to work together to bring the arts to residents and create artistic centerpieces to be used at the nonprofit's "Night of Gratitude" event, which thanks volunteers, staff and donors for their service and support. The students and residents both learned from each other.
Mary Breister, R.N., is the director of Tarfa Terrace and shared this message - "the residents are still talking about how much fun they had connecting with the younger people and being able to experience art creation first-hand. We are so grateful when we can have the community come in and bring energy and share with our residents. It's really essential to their quality of life and both groups seem to benefit."
