Marathon County Sheriff Randy Hoenisch: 'Contact was made' about retirement

Marathon County Sheriff Randy Hoenisch said Friday in a news release that the process for his retirement began earlier this month, but he does not yet have a target retirement date.

Hoenisch on Feb. 22 announced his retirement at a news conference and said he had privately intended to retire in April but instead would move up his retirement date amid questions over the number of hours he spent in his office.

The retirement announcement came three days after a Daily Herald Media report revealed the sheriff had only been in his office for 1.75 hours so far this year and about 22 hours since August. A ...
