A 70-year-old Appleton man died Sunday after his car left U.S. 41 in southwestern Brown County and hit a tree.

According to the Wisconsin State Patrol, the man was southbound on 41 in the town of Lawrence at about 10:15 a.m. when his 2002 Chevrolet Impala went off the road about 750 feet south of Brown County S, went into the ditch, crashed through a fence and kept going until it hit the tree.

The man was alone in the car. He was treated at the scene and taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, where he was pronounced dead. The man's identity was not released.

The State Patrol is investigating.
