Boys track: SPASH's VanHelden takes latest round in high jump duel with Tigers' Bauer

SPASH's Sheldon Harn clears the last hurdle and finishes first in his heat of the 55-meter hurdles at the Point Track & Field Indoor Invitational on Saturday in the Multi-Activity Center on the UW-Stevens Point campus. Harn qualified for the finals and placed third in a time of 7.94 seconds.

Marshfield's Jacob Bauer and Sean VanHelden of Stevens Point Area Senior High have a longstanding - dating to the 8th grade as Bauer tells it - and friendly rivalry in the high jump.

And over the course of their track & field careers, the individual who has come out on top during a competition has alternated about as often as a fickle teenager changes his or her mind about their latest crush.

The bragging rights this week at least belong to the SPASH junior after VanHelden won the high jump competition with a height of 6 feet, 4 inches to edge Bauer at the annual Point Indoor Invitational held Saturday ...
