Illinois man who fought 5 cops gets probation

A 6-foot-1, 290-pound man who fought with five police officers and gave one of them a concussion before they subdued him will spend three years on probation.

Mark Merrell, 32, of Chicago Heights, Ill., was convicted of one count of battery to a peace officer. A second charge of that offense and two counts of resisting arrest were dismissed against him, but were considered at the sentencing. Two more drug charges against him were dismissed outright.
