This afternoon's snow forced Brown County public safety officials to close the Leo Frigo Memorial Bridge for an hour, issue a warning about road conditions and urge caution after several accidents.

In Green Bay, dispatchers say officers have responded to at least 18 accidents since 1 p.m., and the Brown County Sheriff's Department says it responded to 13 accidents in a 45-minute period between 1:30 and 2:15 p.m. today.

The sheriff's department told drivers to avoid U.S. 41 and Scheuring Road i De Pere due to slippery conditions.

National Weather Service meteorologists say 3.4 inches had fallen as of 4 p.m. today. After 6 p.m. today, forecasters say light snow and freezing drizzle will hit and a winter weather advisory will be in effect until 10 p.m. tonight.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., the Leo Frigo Bridge, which carries Interstate 43 over the Fox River, was closed to traffic because of slippery conditions. The southbound lanes reopened an hour later, and the northbound lanes opened by 5:45 p.m.
