The Green Bay Packers' 2012 season ended mostly because it had no answer for the San Francisco 49ers' dynamic quarterback, Colin Kaepernick, in the divisional round of the NFC playoffs.

But coach Mike McCarthy is a firm believer that what happened last April, May and June - the NFL's new offseason months - went a long way toward shaping his team.

And he did not like it. ...
