City again rejects life skills center

Full council now denies school building next to bars

The Stevens Point City Council on Monday rejected the Stevens Point Area Public School Board's effort to build a life skills center for developmentally disabled students.

The council followed the lead of the Plan Commission, which twice denied approval of the center. The council voted 7-3, with Andrew Beveridge, Mike O'Meara and Jeremy Slowinski voting in favor of the proposed center.

Randy Stroik, Mike Wiza, Mary Stroik, Roger Trzebiatowski, Tony Patton, Mike Phillips and Jerry Moore voted against approving the center. Joanne Suomi did not attend the meeting. ...
