March 20, 1947 - Committee is authorized to proceed: Heeding an official report that the Brown county home is in such condition that further repairs are uneconomical, the county board this morning unanimously approved a resolution setting aside $10,000 for preparation of plans for a new combined county home and hospital for the aged and indigent.

The board heard two speakers describe the present building, which is 50 years old, as a "fire trap" and infested with rats, cockroaches and other insects. Both speakers pleaded for a new building, which could be used not only for those of old age who do not have their own means of support but also for elderly people who need convalescent care.

The board also approved a resolution favoring a change in state law which would allow recipients of old age assistance to continue receiving aid even though they are cared for in county institutions. The present law prohibits such aid.
