Reporter insensitive, didn't tell full story

DE PERE - Regarding the Green Bay Press-Gazette article of Feb. 20 written by Paul Srubas reporting on the sentencing of Richard Kellogg.

I am the mother of the victim, Joshua Olson, that Mr. Srubas wrote about. In his article he left detailed items out of the story. I contacted Mr. Srubas after he wrote the article. His response to me I felt was very insensitive. How do you sit and judge the victim and speculate on the path of his life leading up to his death without talking to the people in his life that knew him and were closest with him? Mr. Srubas cast doubt and questioned the timeline of Josh's sobriety. Mr. Srubas admitted in his email to me that it was true, we do not know that Josh lost his sobriety prior to that night.

Also stated in the article, Mr. Kellogg thought Josh was going to be fine like his mother did. At the sentencing hearing it was said Mr. Kellogg gave Josh chest compressions after he collapsed. Isn't that a good reason to call 911 and get Josh help? Why wasn't that written in the article? Mr. Srubas again said yes, he should have put that detail in the article.

The Green Bay Press-Gazette is owned by the Gannett Company Inc. I found their Vision statement, "To be the trusted, leading media and marketing solutions company at the forefront of a new era in human engagement." Those first four words didn't apply to my situation.

It is important for me to remind everyone not to judge the victim of a crime that is a recovering addict. Please remember there are two sides to the story and interview and talk to the survivors of the victim, as we are the only voice Josh has. Mr. Kellogg pleaded guilty to first-degree reckless homicide.
