Six seats on the Oconto City Council are up for election in a few weeks. Should a referendum on the ballot be approved, just two seats will be open.

That will be the effect of the referendum, which seeks to reduce the number of aldermanic seats from 10 to six.

A total of 312 residents signed a petition for the question to be placed on the ballot, about 50 percent more than needed. One of the leaders of the drive, Ora Lee Martin, said when the petition was submitted last fall supporters believed 10 was more than Oconto needed. ...
