A Plover man who would have faced sentencing for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl will now be headed to trial because of a technicality.

Steven Rabideaux, 48, was allowed to withdraw his plea to second-degree sexual assault of a child based on miscommunication from the prosecution's office.

On Dec. 11, 2012, Rabideaux pleaded no contest to the charges, but Portage County Assistant District Attorney David Knaapen said that when he pleaded, the defendant was under the impression that the sentence in the case could be up to life in prison. ...
