Wausau's unemployment rate jumped to 10.6 percent in January, up from 8.9 percent in December, bringing the city's jobless rate to the fourth-highest in the state.

The number of jobless residents in Wausau increased from 9.8 percent in January of 2012 to 10.6 percent in January of this year, according to a report released Wednesday by the Department of Workforce Development. The city's jobless rate sits well above Wisconsin's 7 percent unemployment rate. Overall, 7.9 percent of people are unemployed across the U.S.
