Report: Alcohol abuse costs Fond du Lac County $118.2 million

The overuse and abuse of alcohol costs Fond du Lac County around $118.2 million a year, according to a recent report.

The Burden of Excessive Alcohol Use in Wisconsin, released by the University of Wisconsin Public Health Institute, found that excessive alcohol consumption costs $6.8 billion a year in Wisconsin. The report is the first of its kind in Wisconsin to offer a comprehensive look at the costs of alcohol misuse to the state.

In Fond du Lac County, the costs of alcohol use are driven by a 22 percent binge drinking rate. Excessive alcohol consumption costs nearly $1,163 a year per person ...
