Glitch to close U.S. 41 over weekend: Sewer work gone bad will mean 41 will be closed north of 29 to Velp Avenue from Friday evening to Monday morning.

If there's ever a weekend to avoid US 41 in Howard, this would be it.

Work is scheduled to be under way today and Sunday that will eliminate northbound traffic between Wisconsin 29 and Velp Avenue.

Southbound traffic isn't affected, but northbound regional traffic should exit off Wisconsin 172, take it to Interstate 43 and let 43 take you back to U.S. 41. If you're traveling locally, you can stay on 41 a bit longer but will be forced off at Shawano Avenue, where you can use Military Avenue and Velp Avenue to get back to northbound 41 if that's what you want.

Workers will be digging 28 feet below the highway's northbound lanes this weekend to remove rocks or whatever other obstacles are stopping the drilling for sewer pipe that is to be laid beneath the highway.

The lanes are expected to be reopened by 5 a.m. Monday.
