Firefighters to climb state's tallest building to honor late chief

Two local firefighters will participate in an event to benefit the American Lung Association and honor Rothschild Fire Chief Steve Fritz, who died of a heart attack in December at age 58.

The Fight for Air Climb will take place March 23 at the U.S. Bank building in Milwaukee - the tallest building in Wisconsin. Participants will climb all 42 stories of the downtown building - a total of 84 flights of stairs.

Rothschild firefighter Thomas Mahar, 35, organized and participated in past stair climbs in the Wausau area, including the 9/11 stair climb downtown in 2012. He had plans to get a team ...
