Darren Sanchez had never won an event in a varsity track and field meet before Saturday.

The D.C. Everest sophomore wasted no time by capturing first in the pole vault in a loaded field at the annual Point Indoor Invitational.

Sanchez shared the top height with a vault of 12 feet, 6 inches with Tyler Kraeger of Stevens Point Area Senior High and Marathon's Devan Gertschen, but earned the top finish on the criteria of fewer misses during the competition at the Multi-Activity Center on the UW-Stevens Point campus. ...
