Community Services

PRESCHOOL CLASSES are run by D.C. Everest Community Services Office at Redeemer Evangelical Lutheran Church. The preschool program's primary purpose is to provide children with an opportunity to be exposed to some basic preschool skills. The skills include: coloring, use of scissors and glue, listening and following directions, social interaction with other children and story time. Children will be introduced to a variety of children's literature to enhance reading and readiness skills. We want to emphasize that this is neither a certified preschool program, nor a substitute for day care. Semester four classes start the week of April 1. Ages three and four meet Wednesday morning from 9 a.m. to 11a.m. April 3 to May 22. Cost is $95. Ages four and five meet Tuesday and Thursday mornings April 8 to May 23. Cost is $190.

SWIM LESSONS for children ages two through 14. Parents must go into the water with children ages two and three. Lessons are held Tuesday or Wednesday Evenings during the month of April and then are repeated in May. Class times are either 5:30 p.m. or 6:15 p.m. Each class will last 45 minutes and the cost is $28 for four sessions . Class sizes are limited, so early registration is suggested.

BABYSITTING WORKSHOP is being offered for fourth- and fifth-graders. The workshop will address many everyday situations and emergencies that could occur while babysitting. Students are encouraged to bring a snack as this class meets right after school. Class meets Tuesday from 3:45 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. at Weston Elementary School on April 2, 9, 16 and 23. Cost is $37.

EVEREST ADVENTURE CARE CAMP (formerly Care Corner Camp) will be held this summer at Greenheck Field House. Summer camp dates will be June 10 to Aug. 30. Camp will feature activities and field trips planned around the weekly themes. All camp fees will include morning and afternoon snacks and lunch. Details and registration forms will be coming out soon, attached to the Friday elementary newsletters.

CARE GIVING FOR A LOVED ONE is designed to provide information to caregivers who have concerns about their loved ones. The three sessions will cover understanding the process of aging, the different stages of caregiving, family caregiving, the driving dilemma, the language of caregiving and senior housing. Classes meet Thursdays, April 4, 11 and 18, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Greenheck Field House, Room 209. Cost is $35.

FIRST AID is an American Red Cross course that includes a three-year certification in first aid. Course includes a book, administrative fee and card. Course will meet April 10 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Greenheck Field House, Room 110. Cost is $55.

SOAPMAKING will teach you how to make your own soap from scratch. You will take home 24 bars of old-fashioned soap. This is a hands-on workshop that covers each step in the process. Participants will need to come with their own supplies from a list provided. Class meets April 13 from 10 a.m. to noon at the senior high, Room 130. Cost is $15.

INTRODUCTION TO PICKLEBALL Once you try this sport, you will be hooked. It is a combination of tennis and racquetball but slower with shorter distances. The ball used is lighter and slower moving than a traditional tennis ball or racquetball. This introductory class will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. April 2 in the Greenheck Field House. Cost is $3.
